Wyoming’s elevation and overall sunny weather should make sun-safe behaviors to help avoid skin cancer a high priority for state residents, according to the Wyoming Department of Health.“Unfortunately, many people don’t understand skin cancer can be terribly serious, even deadly,” said Dr. Brent Sherard, Wyoming Department of Health director and state health officer. “The good news is skin cancer can be quite avoidable.”
Jessica Perez, outreach specialist for the Wyoming Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, said, “The all-out best way to reduce your risk of developing skin cancer is simply to avoid too much exposure to the sun and other forms of ultraviolet (UV) light. When you’re outside seek shade, and remember to use sunscreen and wear defensive clothing, hats and sunglasses.”
