Wave of swine flu likely in the nation again this monsoon

The epidemic of swine flu, which had freshly hit the country in 2009, might strike again this monsoon, reveal experts.Officials believe that the virus might become highly active in the monsoon with the weather receiving colder and pleasant.“The dip in temperature is one reason why the swine flu wave hit India last year.

With the monsoon coming, there is likely to be much cooler weather and thus more cases than during the summer," said Dr Pradeep Awate, head of Swine Flu Control Room in Maharashtra. Many others propose that the virus is always present in the air. However, it gets temporarily stagnant due to the high rise in temperature.

“The virus has remained in the impression from the time of the last flu wave and was de-activated by the heat. But with monsoon and a much cooler weather coming up, the virus may get active again," said Dr Daksha Shah, head of epidemiology cell.
