Low-cost cosmetics can cause skin cancer

The Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) in its analysis report regarding the mushroom development of low-cost cosmetic articles said that many hazardous chemicals including steroids and mercury salts were being used in face whitening creams which have bad belongings on the skin and might lead to skin diseases, as well as skin cancer and black spots.

Similarly, toxic metals, minerals, arsenic oxides and pig fat being used in import bath soaps may influence the nerve system.

Some chemicals like lineralkoil benzene and sulphonic acid are used in carpet manufacturing and washing of vehicles and floors a few manufacturers of low-cost shampoo use not only these chemicals but also a banned PPD chemical in manufacturing products which could cause skin cancer, everlasting hair fall and allergic problems, the report added.
