The ensuing monsoon is set to bring in the much-needed release from the sizzling weather but health expert are anticipating an outbreak of vector-borne disease this year. Since the pre-monsoon showers, 10-12 malaria and diarrhoea cases are being report on a daily basis in the Greater Hyderabad limit already.
Last year too, monsoon had snuffed out a number of lives due to the dengue epidemic and other viral fevers in the city. Doctors said that viral fever including dengue, chikungunya and malaria are likely to raise as the cooler climate is conducive for the survival of the virus.
“Already we are considering cases of malaria. We are expecting that this season will have an epidemic with first month of monsoon bringing in cholera, typhoids, gastroenteritis and hepatitis. In the later month, a second round of dengue and chikungunya is expected to hit,” said Dr B Vijay Kumar, senior physician with Yashoda Hospital.
