Diabetes Drug can treat Alzheimer's Disease

http://bigfigure.blogspot.com/
German scientists say a drug taken to treat type-2 diabetes may be efficient against Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers said the drug metformin counteracts change of the cell structure protein known as Tau in mice models. These cell structure changes are a important cause of the development of Alzheimer’s, the researchers said in a statement. The scientist were from the German Center for Neurodegenerative Disease, the University of Dundee and the Max Planck-Institute for Molecular Genetics.

During their research, the scientists also said they exposed the molecular mechanism of metformin. “If we can prove that metformin shows also an "effect in humans, it is certainly a good applicant for an efficient therapy on Alzheimer’s disease, Sybille Kraub, from the Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases, said in a report. The researchers said Alzheimer’s disease occur when neurons in the brain die, which lead to cognitive injury. Also, it is characterized by the configuration of Tau protein deposits in nerve cells.

Dr. Anne Corbett, research infrastructure manager for the Alzheimer’s Society, said the study offered some hope of a new and efficient drug treatment for the disease, but further research is needed to understand the link between Alzheimer’s and diabetes. “Previous research has recommended that metformin decrease the risk of dementia in diabetic people, and this study give some understanding of why this might be,” Corbett said in a statement. “'A million more people are set to expand dementia in the next 10 years. It is significant that people maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to decrease their risk and that larger investment in dementia research is made to more our understanding of the condition.”

Epilepsy

If the human body is an electrical unit, the brain is the epicenter. This epicenter is comprised of vessels which send out electric waves throughout the entire body. But what happen if one of those vessel misfires? What information gets trapped between two different portals? A seizure. The brain will report a present internal imbalance, forcing the body to fall into a seizure. This precise action is the main indication of epilepsy; a disease which affects 1% of the population.

The brain is comprised of hundreds of nerve cells which converse through electrical signals. In order for the brain to correctly function, the interplay between the nerve cells must be regulated. The normal function is disturbed, when an irregular electrical discharge causes an epileptic seizure. Although the epileptic seizures are a direct result of abnormalities in the brain, the brain suffers no real damage.

If an individual is experiencing epileptic seizures, it often originates genetically. In the case of focal epilepsy a brain scan can usually depict the precise cause. When an individual is not experience epileptic seizures, there are not perfect symptoms. However, during these seizures, the individual will skill twitching in the muscles, abnormal sensations, or lose of consciousness. Epilepsy is usually treated with agreed medication, but in severe cases an individual may require surgery.

Tetanus

http://bigfigure.blogspot.com/
The tetanus toxin, tetanospasmin, ranks as one of the most effective microbial poison. These toxins take the shape of bacterial spores which live within the environment around us. These spores live of the varied elements of soil, animal excrement, house dust, operating rooms, contaminated heroin, and the human colon. Once the tetanus poison, come in the body it will penetrate the outer and inner nerves of the spine.

After an estimated 8 days, the recreation of the individual’s muscles will become blocked, due to a short circuit of the nerves.Tetanus can enter the body in a different ways; animal or insect bits, surgical wounds, the site of needle injections, burns, splinters, lesions, abrasions, ulcers, infected umbilical cords, and of course from rusty intimate objects. Any individual that contracts tetanus will skill anything from spasms in the jaw, hand, arms, legs, and back.

Every one of these spasms are precipitated, or brought on, by a severe noise or touch. In more intense forms of tetanus individuals will lose the ability to breathe, or even die. If an individual believes, he/she may have contracted tetanus, they should hurry to a hospital immediately. Upon the visit, an individual will receive two forms of medication; a medicine to eliminate the toxin and a medicine to suppress the spasms.
